Mgr. Petr Dresler, PhD. is a lecturer and professional worker in the Department of Archaeology and Museology at the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University in Brno. He specialises in early medieval archaeology, geodesy in archaeology, and geographic information systems. Since 2016 he has been site director in archaeological excavations at Pohansko.

He joined the research team at Pohansko near Břeclav in 2003. Within the scope of his teaching activities he holds lectures on geographic information systems, spatial modelling, computing technology and geodesy in archaeology, supervises the final theses of students in individual study programmes and participates in publishing of research results, not only those from Pohansko. Since 2009 he has been lecturer in a key activity of the OP Education for Competitiveness “Education in Modern Methods of Archaeological Practice” and since 2012 he acts as lecturer in another key activity of the same OP “Innovation of Archaeology and Museology Education for Practice in the Interdisciplinary and International Frame”.

For more than forty years already, Pavel Čáp has been an indispensable member of the research team at Pohansko near Břeclav. He works as a field and laboratory technician, conservator-restorer and administrator of the research base at Pohansko. He is a great connoisseur and imitator of Great Moravian jewellery, produced both in traditional and in modern way.

He began to work as a field technician in 1975 and participated immediately in a small-scale rescue excavation in the North-Eastern Suburb. In the same year he also took part in examination of the ruined fortification. Besides his working as a field technician, he also carried out laboratory treatment of pottery, conservation of artefacts made from iron and other metals, inventorying of finds and many other activities. But, above all, he was entrusted with administration of the scientific and research base at Pohansko.

Mgr. Renáta Přichystalová, PhD. (b. Švecová) is a lecturer, development and research assistant currently working in the Department of Archaeology and Museology at the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University in Brno. She specialises in the early medieval period and in bone and antler industry.

Besides her research activities she also teaches in the Department of Archaeology and Museology where she holds lectures on methodology of archaeological survey and excavations, bone and antler industry from the Palaeolithic to the Early Middle Ages, and bibliography for archaeologists. Apart from the Masaryk University, she also holds lectures in the Department of History at the Palacký University in Olomouc. Besides her teaching activities and intensive archaeological research at Pohansko she also took part in many other projects.

Prof. PhDr. Jiří Macháček, Ph.D. is a Moravian archaeologist and specialist in early medieval Slavic archaeology and computer support in archaeology. Until 2016, when he became Head of the Department of Archaeology and Museology at the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University in Brno, he was the site director in archaeological excavations at Pohansko.

In 1998 he took up the position of the site director in archaeological excavations at Pohansko near Břeclav after Prof. PhDr. B. Dostál, DrSc. and PhDr. J. Vignatiová, CSc. He is still active in these excavations to this day. Apart from the Masaryk University, he also teaches at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň and in 2007 he also held lectures at the University of Greifswald, Germany. Within the scope of his pedagogical activity he supervises the final theses of students in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies, holds lectures and seminars on the Slavs in Central Europe and seminars in computing technology. He participated in many projects and extracurricular activities.

A recognised archaeologist and teacher at the Brno University, who helped to establish the Chair of Prehistory at former Jan Evangelista Purkyně University, present-day Masaryk University in Brno.

František Kalousek was born in Bučovice on December 20, 1901. After having completed the studies in a real gymnasium in his native town, he began to work as a teacher. He tenaciously proceeded in his career and since 1927 he acted as a teacher specialised in history, Czech language and geography. Being influenced by the amateur archaeologist Alois Procházka, he found deep interest in archaeology. In cooperation with noted Moravian archaeologists he worked as the site director in archaeological excavations (e.g. Šardičky, Holubice, Kobeřice, etc).

On August 16, 1929, a significant figure in Moravian archaeology was born. Prof. PhDr. Bořivoj Dostál, DrSc. was a noted researcher, archaeologist, professor at what is now the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University in Brno, specialist in Slavic archaeology, particularly in the period of Great Moravia.

He was born in Heršpice near Slavkov and in his youth already he expressed deep passion for history, to which he dedicated all his life. His interest in history of our country was still intensified by his secondary school teacher František Kalousek, thanks to whom he later became archaeologist. But first he studied history and Russian language at the Pedagogical Faculty of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Brno (present-day Masaryk University).

PhDr. Jana Vignatiová, CSc. was an important person participating in archaeological field research at the Great Moravian stronghold Pohansko near Břeclav.

She was born in Ostrava on April 28, 1937. Her youth is connected with Uherské Hradiště. After having passed the secondary school examination, she continued her studies. Since 1955 she studied ethnography at the Faculty of Arts of the Brno University where she finally successfully graduated. In this institution she also started her professional career, which was from the beginning already connected with archaeological research at the Great Moravian stronghold Pohansko near Břeclav.
